DESCRIPTION:The Florida Gulf Coast University College of Education Annual Literacy Festival is the only university-sponsored literacy festival in the state of Florida. Every year it connects children’s and young adult authors and illustrators with over 2000 students from regional Title I schools. The College of Education purchases participating authors’ books and distributes them regionally before the event. Every student receives a book! College of Education teacher candidates visit classrooms to study the participating authors and integrate their books into the curriculum across their disciplines. The day of the FGCU COE Literacy Festival features author book signings\, interactive workshops with authors\, digital literacy\, and STREAM activities.

Once each child has completed the tent activity and received a stamp on their passport\, they will select a book (first come first serve) from the Spotlight Book Tent of their favorite book of the four tents and then also will select an AR book from the Junior League book area to take home for free! Children’s musical guru\, Jack Hartmann\, will perform at the event\, along with face painting and balloon artists for even more family fun. \nIn addition to the activities and spotlight tent book giveaways\, there will be two featured authors autographing and facilitating meet and greets at the event. Jaimie Engle\, author of Clifton Chase and the Arrow of Light\, and Jennifer Swanson\, author of Astronaut Aquanaut How Space Science and Sea Science Interact\, will be signing books and giving away free copies of their books to the first 700 participants! They will also each be reading from their books twice during the event
